Chairman of First Digital Capital Deryck Graham is a serial technology entrepreneur with 30 years of building and listing companies on the Australian Securities Exchange and 19 years experience as a public company director. He cofounded QHL, Australia’s largest composite aerospace defence contractor with $800m in contracts, launched, JV’ed and sold Eagle Aircraft which now forms Malaysia’s billion dollar aviation industry and developed one of the world’s first social media platforms. He is a Blockchain evangelist and an active investor.

Alan Kohler
Alan Kohler has been a financial journalist for 46 years, starting as a cadet on The Australian. He was editor of the Australian Financial Review between 1985 and 1988 and editor of The Age between 1992 and 1995. He was the Chanticleer columnist for the Financial Review twice, and in 1995 joined the ABC, first as a reporter on the 7.30 Report and then as host of Inside Business and finance presenter on ABC news, which he still does. In 2005 he launched Eureka Report, a newsletter for self-directed investors, and in 2007 he was the largest shareholder and CEO of Business Spectator, a 24 hour a day online business publication. In 2012 those businesses were sold to News Corporation. Currently Alan is publisher and editor of his new 100%-owned publication, The Constant Investor; business editor at large of The Australian; finance presenter on ABC news; presenter of the Talking Business
09.50 – 10.10 Keynote: The Creation of Blockchain 1991 and onwards
Dr W. Scott Stornetta
While working at Bell Communications Research (Bellcore), Dr. Stornetta co-invented, along with Stuart Haber, the blockchain technique. This helped lay the foundation for Bitcoin and other digital currencies (for example, of the eight citations in the original Bitcoin paper, three reference his and Dr. Haber’s work). Along with Dr. Haber, he co-founded Surety, a Bellcore spinoff. Surety’s offering constituted the first commercial deployment of a blockchain. Dr. Stornetta finished at Bellcore as Assistant General Manager of the 125-person Mathematical and Computer Sciences Laboratory. Dr. Stornetta consulted for many years, evaluating the commercial potential of emerging technologies on behalf of universities, commercial research labs, and venture capital interests. Dr. Stornetta received his Ph.D. in physics from Stanford University, after attending MIT, Harvard, and Brigham Young University.

With the deployment of their Container Streams system in a supply chain environment, MTI (based in the UK and the USA) demonstrates that the logistics industry will see improved connectivity, efficiency and security thanks to blockchain. Michael Casey is a Senior Advisor at MIT Media Lab’s Digital Currency Initiative, where he heads research into blockchain applications that advance financial inclusion and energy efficiency, and a senior lecturer at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. Formerly a journalist at The Wall Street Journal, Casey is also Chairman of the Advisory Board at CoinDesk, the leading media outlet and events coordinator within the digital currency and blockchain industry. He is the author of five books, including the recently published The Truth Machine: The Blockchain and the Future of Everything, which he co-wrote with Paul Vigna. Casey is a native of Perth, where he graduate from the University of Western Australia. He also holds higher degrees from Curtin and Cornell universities.
